Dream Interpretation 3/22/09

Dreams
by © Anacoana

Dreams are one of the ways our mind communicates to us. Intuition, inspiration, flashes of insight, meditations, and visions. All are part of that inner dialog. All are symbolic of different levels of meaning. To understand how this communication works and to learn from it, it is important to know how your mind uses these symbols. Keeping a dream journal, and recording the dreams as well as insight, inspirations, will help you to know how these symbols are guiding your growth.

In the past I have read books on dream interpretation, but it didn't "fit" me. What has been an excellent resource are books like, dictionaries of symbols, or encyclopedia of symbols. The two that I have & use are An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols by J.C. Cooper. and A Dictionary of Symbols by J.E. Cirlot.

From a metaphysical viewpoint here are some guidelines as to interpretation, combine it with what the symbols mean should get you started to the unfolding of the messages from yourself and Spirit.

People in Dreams

Everyone in the dream is an aspect of you. The same sex would represent your conscious mind, opposite sex, the subconscious self-aspects. Figures of authority, as in what represents authority to you: parents, teachers, police, etc. would be seen as High self-aspect. Children would represent that part of you or ideas, which are still developing. A baby is a new idea, new behavior, and new learning experience.

Places in Dreams

Dreaming you are in different part of a home is relating to different levels of the mind.

A basement, is seen as the unconscious part, place where we store things, beliefs that we don't even know we have "collected" in our life. Misconceptions, old belief patterns, and truths that now longer are valid to us.
A garage would be seen the same way if in your real life that's were you "store" stuff.

The different rooms are related to how you use the room in real life. The bedroom is for rest & relaxation, in a dream it would be that you are processing, some concepts, or beliefs at this time.

The kitchen is where we prepare our meals so if in a dream you are in the kitchen, what are you doing. Are you preparing, cleaning, serving, or eating? Food represents knowledge, so are you serving the knowledge, teaching some part of yourself, or are you taking in the knowledge.

The recreational parts of the home, how are they used, to work, play, watch TV listen to music, how you use those areas are what the dream is talking to you about that part of your life. Look at how the room is furnished, is it a mess, is it different then in real life?

Are you in the living room but it has no walls, or the carpet attracts your attention because it is lime green?

Are there windows, are the dirty, are you looking out, into other levels of you mind? Are you watching TV, or in a theater, "viewing" your life. What strikes you,is where your attention is, where do you need to be placing your attention? What details in you mind, are you missing, furniture missing or added?

The up stairs levels would be seen as going up to higher levels of mind. What is in the higher levels of your mind? Is this where you create, assimilate and process=sleep, release=bathrooms. Are you cleansing yourself in the shower, or letting go = toilet, of some thoughts? What are you doing in that part of the house,do you normally use that part of the house is how to interpret these rooms.

If you have an attic, or have ever dreamed of being high up in your house, this is a higher level of mind too. What are the colors, the feelings, the appearance.
Again windows, walls, and furnishings? are clues, from your mind to you about where you are at in you processing growth in life.

Work or School

Are you at the place you work, how are you relating to the people who represent you, or who is teaching you about how you relate to situations that need to get done in your daily life.
If you are in school, how does it look, feel, who is there with you how do you feel about them, what are you learning about yourself now, what are you teaching yourself now.
The mind will use symbols you have stored up in your life to make you pay attention to what is going on now, or what you need to look at from that time.

The work place may be someplace you worked years ago, and you are still processing those lessons. Or at a current job, are you overwhelmed in some aspects of the job and your mind is working it out while you sleep?
What is the dynamic of the relations with people if there are people interacting with you in a dream?

Vehicles in Dreams

Your vehicle is just that the vehicle that takes you through this life, so a car is representing you body. This is were we get insight into our physical health, warnings, of taking care of ourselves. Say you were driving in a dream and you got a flat tire, this is a warning of some health issue, so take a look at how you feel, in waking, are you "run" down, or if you run out of gas, or can't start the car, see that in relationship to the car, and then take a look at your bodies health. Some times the dream will happen 3 days to 3 weeks to 3 months, before the physical manifestation arrives.

Dreams of being threaten by a gun, knife or some tool is about change. Change can feel threatening to us on some level, it may mean an old way of thinking is about to "die", or change. Remember the other person who is doing the threatening is an aspect of yourself, so look at how you see that person, feeling, judgments about that person. Then honestly ask if you have those qualities too, and are those qualities threatening you, harming you, preventing your growth. This is where recording the dreams will really help to understand the language and symbols. Perhaps this could also be about a situation, a warning to be careful in your travels or at home. Work with the dream how do you feel and in "real" life about some people or situation you are in?
The dreams and our bodies don't lie to us.
We can rationalize, fool ourselves consciously, but the dreams, are your inner voice of truth speaking to you. So pay attention, work with the dream ask yourself questions, journal the answers. The more you pay attention to the dreams you have the more dreams you'll have with meaning.

Sometimes the dream may be "threatening" to you because you eat something that "threatens your well being and that is what the dream is saying. Perhaps you stomach, intestines were really stressed by what you ate before bed. That will affect your dreams and be represented in the dream.

Your dreams will 'talk' to you about your emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health, which is why it is important to remember the dreams.

Emotional Symbols

The emotional body is seen as a vehical also.
In a dream if you are in a boat, or some conveyance to travel on water (emotions) it is talking about your feelings. Water represents the emotions, so you'll need to look into what the dream is saying about you emotions, are they smooth, choppy, huge waves, still water?
How are you navigating through the emotions, are you in control, out of balance, drowning, floating, swimming, enjoying, fearing?

Colors in Dreams

Different levels of consciousness have different vibrations, which are interpreted in our brain as color or sounds. The deeper colors are normally lower levels of mind. The higher the frequency you are at the, the lighter the colors; from pastels to golden shades, silver, or bright white colors.

Music

Sounds of music again are different clues as to where you are at in mind. What is it that you hear?

Some sounds can be heard and to interpret it is a mystery. So the symbol book really helps hear. I remember hearing drums, and thinking my neighbors where drumming. It felt like in the dream I woke up from it, then thought well maybe they'll stop & I can go back to sleep. It continued so then I thought, well let it put me back to sleep, it did after awhile. The next morning when I saw my friend next door I commented on the drumming last night. He said they were out doing laundry, came home late & went to bed?

Recently I woke up to hearing my named called, seemed like from some place far away?

Sometimes we have to just wait and see how life unfolds, or what other dreams we have that may be related to this. I like to read my journal over a period of time, some dreams at first don't make that much sense to me then later I see how it was a precognition of events that happened.

Precognition Dreams

In Metaphysics I learned that there is no difference in time or space. In meditations, I know that to be true. We can journey to what feels like some "time" in the future or the past. We can journey to some events in the "future" or "past" yet in Truth for me, it is a spiral. Time is not left to right linear motion, it is a cycle, flow, a process in the ever present now moment of existence.

Precognitive dreams may been understood in later review of the dream then at the moment you have it.

Some may be startling events, some people "see" into the "future". You will know if you are having this by the reality, or intensity of the dream.

There are different levels of these kinds of dreams too. To explain these I need to explain about alternative realities, astral projection, remote viewing, which is a whole section in and of itself.
For now lets talk about dreams that come true, in our wakening life, and some examples of how I get them.

An example of this is I had a dream, in it I was trying to go to see my aunt who was sick and in the hospital. The hospital was in Downtown Chicago. I drove to my mom's home to ask her how to get to the hospital. When I went to the car there was a German Shepard dog on the car standing in my way, and I couldn't get in the car. That is all I remembered of the dream. It was three days later that I was at work, I worked close to my moms' house, and so she'd come visit a lot. She walked in and said to me "your aunt is in the hospital"(the same hospital in the dream), I said to her "I know!" then asked room number, and that was it. I was surprised that I knew she was in the hospital, that I forgot to ask anyone how to get there. On my day off I thought I'd go to see her, forgetting about the dream, I traveled the expressway to Downtown Chicago from the suburbs where I lived. I got to the general area, but if anyone knows Chicago, the Lake front and the turn off system from the highway, they'll attest to the fact you can see the place but which exit to take, you can't guess at. So there I was driving and could see the hospital in the distance but didn't have a clue to which exit to take to get there. So I got off and turned around and went back home without visiting her. Had I asked like the dream was warning me to, I perhaps would of gotten to see her. So the dream wasn't exactly how it happened the, elements were similar to be sure.

Keeping a journal, reading it, adding notations to events that do happen, is a way to learn how you have precognitive dreams.

Animals in Dreams

Animals represent our habitual nature and the instinctive things we do. Animals have keen instincts, yet we think they can't reason (scientist say they don't) So for now we'll say the mind will give us an animal to symbolize that part of ourselves that has become instinctive or habitual. I also feel animals represent our spirit helper here on earth, our four-legged family. So depending how you feel and believe about them will be how to look at what is being given to you to understand. The Original American have given us insight into the nature of animals, so it is good to get a book on that to fully understand. One I really use for this is by Jamie Sams & David Carson, called Medicine Cards. It has the medicine cards and a book. I refer to it often as I have many creatures that come to me with "messages" on my walks. When I see Ravens, or a huge butterfly, or recently I found on a walk, a coyote tail. So I look at where my thoughts are, what's "up" in my life at the moment, see how it fits, what the "message" is for me.

An example of an animal that is not a familiar one to most of us, was a dream I had of a hippopotamus chasing me. I looked hippo up in the symbols encyclopedia, and it said

That in Egyptian symbolism it is seen as the Great Mother, Amenti, the "bringer-forth" of waters'; Taueret, goddess of protection and bounty. Well in a few days time I knew about water. I went into the kitchen to get a glass of water and stepped into a puddle? It was about 10:00pm, I checked the dishwasher I had used hours ago, it was fine. As I mopped up the water I saw it was coming from the hot water tank under my counter and sink.

I called the emergency number for maintenance, he was great to come over at that hour. He said "it was the hot water tank leaking, had to be replaced" He shut off the water and commented how the woman downstairs had a problem in the pipes in her bathroom walls, and since he'd be fixing that the next day he'd drain & replace our heater. Of course that meant we'd be without water till it was fixed. The next day was dry, bathing too.

The following day we had a storm. It rained, the wind was so strong that the rain was coming down sideways, an umbrella was useless. I had come home for lunch and to meet with my son. The lightening was so bad I decided he should come back with me to work. We walked back to where I worked & were soaked through. I had him wear one of those yellow rain suits, and I had my useless umbrella. We walk into the place where I work & we where greeted by the Fire Dept. and the alarms ringing. The building had been struck by lightening while we were at home and they had to evacuate and check it out. So when the all clear came and we could go in we were a mess. My shoes squished, my son sat by a little fan that kept the electric alarm gate operating, to dry off some.

So was my dream a warning? I'd say so! Where we protected? Definitely, did we know about the bringer of water, indeed!
