LITERARY ICON ANDREW HOLLERAN To APPEAR AT STONEWALL LIBRARY & ARCHIVES ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17

On Sunday, February 17, 2008, at 2:00 pm, at Stonewall Library & Archives, literary icon Andrew Holleran will discuss his works and will read from an unpublished work.

Essayist, novelist, and short story writer, Holleran is one of the preeminent writers of post-Stonewall gay literature. He was a member of the Violet Quill, a gay writer's group that met briefly from 1980-81 and included, among others, Edmund White, Felice Picano, and Robert Ferro.

"Dancer from the Dance," Holleran's first novel, was published in 1978, as was set among the discos and bars of New York and Fire Island. Holleran's book became the quintessential portrait of an era, a gay Great Gatsby penned by our very own F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Holleran's second novel was "Nights in Aruba," and his third was "The Beauty of Men." Holleran's latest novel "Grief: a Novel" received the 2007 Stonewall Book Award.

Holleran teaches creative writing at American University in Washington, DC, and he continues to publish short fiction in gay short story collections like M2M: New Literary Fiction and frequently publishes articles in The Gay and Lesbian Review.

Please join us on Sunday, February 17 at 2:00 PM for this rare chance to meet Mr. Holleran. Copies of Mr. Holleran's books will be available for purchase at the event and the author will be available for signing. The event will include light refreshments and is free and open to the public.

There are also still a few seats available for Stonewall's intimate champagne luncheon with Andrew Holleran on Saturday, February 16, at noon, at Stonewall. Tickets for this event are $50 and may be purchased by calling Jack Rutland at 954-763-8565.

Stonewall is located at 1717 North Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. Our mission is to collect, preserve, organize for use and display materials related to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender culture and history; support related research and sponsor cultural and educational programs.

This program is sponsored by Stonewall Library & Archives and is supported by a generous grant from Comcast in recognition of Comcast's commitment to the communities where its customers and employees live and work.

Funding for this organization is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council.
