The
new theatre season starts this evening with the opening of “I Love Lucy
Live On Stage” at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in
Miami presented by Bank of America: Broadway In Miami.
It
will be followed on Saturday, October 4, by the premiere of “The
Marvelous Wonderettes” in the new Abdo New River Room at the Broward
Center for the Performing Arts marking the debut of Slow Burn Theatre
Company.
On Tuesday, October 7, Bank of America
will present the start of the Broadway in Fort Lauderdale season with
“Annie” in the main theatre of the Broward Center for the Performing
Arts Au-Rene Theatre which holds 2,700 people.
These are just 3 of the 16 plus opening nights I will be attending and which I will be reporting and reviewing for you.

“I
Love Lucy Live On Stage” shows two episodes from 1950 being taped and
includes the crew, the original commercials recreated live such as that
good old “Plop, fizz” Alka Seltzer ad that drove people of a certain age
crazy and all that was involved in taping shows back then.
The show stars Euriamis Losada as Ricky, Thea Brooks as Lucy, Zori Hammel as Ethel and Kevin Remington as Fred.
“The
Marvelous Wonderettes” are about the Springfield High Songleaders
entertaining at their prom with a load of songs from the 1950s and
1960s.

“Annie”,
since its opening night on Broadway April 27, 1977, and running for 6
years, has since had a television production, a movie version, a new
movie version coming out in December, and in 1997 there was a revival on
Broadway. This tour represents the revival on Broadway in 2012 and
after 525 performances is now touring across the United States. The
picture in the slideshow is of the new Annie played by Issie Swickle.
Looking at the dates of the 3 shows it looks like “Everything Old Is New Again” certainly is!
