Why does the “New Living Version” English translation of Gen. 22:19 say, “So THEY returned to the young men…”, when all other English translations say, “So ABRAHAM returned to his young men…”?

The answer is that the translators of “The New Living Version” had training in critical Bible scholarship. And because they had that training they knew secrets about the Bible that few if any ordinary clergymen know – and critical scholars do not like their secrets to get out. You would not think that a modern Christian would try to change the word of God but the translators of “The New Living Version” intended to do exactly that.

What’s the big deal, you ask? So they changed one word of the Bible. It probably wasn’t done on purpose. Take a closer look. How does this one word change the story of the sacrifice of Isaac? In the story from “The New Living Version” Abraham and Isaac go up the mountain and Abraham and Isaac come back down the mountain. In all other versions of the Bible – in every language – Abraham and Isaac go up the mountain but only Abraham comes down. He comes down alone because in the original story – the way it was written by the original author – Isaac died on MT Moriah.

Sounds crazy doesn’t it. After all, verses 11 thru 18 clearly say that an angel stepped in and stopped Abraham from killing Isaac. The truth is that verses 11 thru 18 are the work of a forger. There is no doubt about it. And the fact that Isaac died on the mountain – the fact that this forgery is hidden in the Bible – is the most important of all the Bible’s secrets. The reason it’s important is that it raises powerful questions that, in the opinion of some critical scholars, the public is not ready to know.

Who, for example, made this forgery? Why did they do it? When did they do it? Why did Isaac have to die in the original story? What was the original author’s message? All of these questions and more are important but the most important of them is: When did this forgery take place? It is the most important question because the answer to it reveals how Christianity was saved from extinction when Jesus was crucified.

The story of the sacrifice of Isaac became the story of the sacrifice of Jesus: only begotten son…lamb of God…sacrificed on a mount (Moriah/Calvary), carrying the wood for one’s own sacrifice; you can make the other connections yourself. The point is that the first Christians modeled Jesus’ life and death on Isaac’s life and death. It is important, then, to know if the version of Isaac’s sacrifice that early Christians were using was the original version or the forged version.

Having been a Christian myself I know that it is almost impossible for a believer to comprehend the kind of thinking I’m showing you here. Christians believe the Bible was written (inspired) by God. They are not in the habit of trying to understand the human ideas and purposes of the men who actually wrote the Bible. That way of thinking is foreign to Christians.
