Snake Carroll Slithers off to Seattle

Pete Carroll, the super-successful head coach of USC, who has had some of the best teams money could buy has raised his ugly head and slithered off to Seattle to once again give it a go with a pro team. Actually, it's a fit for Carroll--now he can buy his players legally.

Announcing his decision, Carroll stated,  "There was never going to be a good time" (of his decision to leave USC).  But some times are definitely better than others; namely, when your university and your program are under investigation.

And Carroll wants us to believe it was all  about the "challenge" and had nothing to do with the Reggie Bush mess.

The Reggie Bush debacle, which has dragged on for five years, is about to come to a head in a San Diego court.  The sports agent, who contends Bush reneged on a promise that he could represent him, is suing to recover some $290,000 the agent says he provided to Bush and his family while Bush was at USC.

The Civil Court can do something the NCAA has been unable to do--subpoena witnesses.  And Carroll is among those about to be subpoenaed. Carroll still denies knowing about the Bush debacle, which he calls "the stuff", stating that anyone who says otherwise is wrong.     RIGHT!!!
Way back then, USC was the envy of every program in America. Carroll had already won a couple of national championships and the fourth of his seven consecutive PAC-10 crowns. Bush was the third of Carroll’s players to win the Heisman — in  FOUR YEARS.   Little wonder that movie stars vied for face time on the Coliseum’s sidelines.
Now it’s different.   The entire athletic department is embattled. Men’s basketball has voluntarily forfeited the post season for a street agent’s payments made to O.J. Mayo.   One hears the university has sacrificed basketball for the sake of football.

Plausible gossip.   But here are the facts:   After starting quarterback Mark Sanchez left to compete in the pros — a move Carroll publicly criticized — the coach’s vision for a true freshman quarterback failed.   The team went 5-4 in the conference, fifth in the Pac-10.

Running back Joe McKnight was kept out of the Emerald Bowl after the Los Angeles Times reported he was driving around in a Range Rover that wasn’t his.
Most recently, SI.com reported former USC assistant Dave Watson was addicted to painkillers and would routinely obtain them from team doctors.   He testified he told Carroll of his addiction three months before getting into a wreck with his university-issued Jeep.
A snake can only hide in the grass so long before someone cuts off his head.
