Under Pressure, Bp Releases Lone Oil Spill Picture

Under pressure from the media, British Petroleum (BP) finally released this lone photo of the broken pipeline that is pouring 210,000 gallons of oil each day into the Gulf of Mexico.
Though BP has a video camera in place that is sending back minute-by-minute photos, the pictures belong to BP and the company thus far has refused to allow access to the video.
BP's latest idea to insert another pipe into the one above and siphon the oil into a tanker so far has proven fruitless.  In the meantime, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted permission to BP to use a special chemical that is supposed to break up the oil into small particles to minimize damage to wildlfe and fish.
However, the chemical has never been used this deep and it could conceivably prove harmful itself to the fish and wildlife of the Gulf.  If it does work though, it could save the wetlands from complete ruination,  officials theorized.

The uncontrolled spill, which could become the worst in U.S. history, is expected to drift farther west, away from Florida's popular beaches but into the important shipping channels and rich seafood areas off the central Louisiana coast, west of the Mississippi Delta.

The environmental group Greenpeace issued an unconfirmed report late on May 9 that traces of oil had been found onshore at Port Eads, the southernmost point of Louisiana, which is accessible only by boat or helicopter.

The spill's major contact with the shoreline so far has been in the unpopulated Chandeleur Islands off Louisiana, which is a mostly a wildlife reserve and bird sanctuary.
