Outdoor Recreation--the Finale!

Day Four we got our cursory fifteen minute canoeing tutorial.  Basically, the idea is for one person to sit in the front of the craft, one in the back, and to alternate side to side with the paddle to propel the canoe through the water.
Of course, the fun part is that the ideal position is to sit on one's knees with the back straight, which is comfortable for at least fifteen minutes.  After that, it's torture.
To Janet's credit, she actually got it.  I didn't!  Every time I switched sides, I failed to put the paddle perfectly perpendicular to the water and the canoe turned.  So, instead of moving in a straight line, we made nice, lovely circles.
Now, why should I think I would actually succeed at this when I hadn't conquered any other sport all week!  But hope springs eternal in the heart of a fool...or an abysmal  wanna' be athlete.
Finally, Janet gave up on me, suggested that I just pretend to be rowing and she would do the work.  That solved our problem and we arrived at the designated finish.
That afternoon, we could go back to any venue and do whatever we had liked best!  What a joke!  For us, it was whatever we had disliked LEAST!
After much cogitation and deliberation, we finally decided to give sailing another go.  Needless to say, we were no more skilled than we had been originally.  But, we actually had fun, knowing that we were simply doing it with no pressure and no one watching to see "how well we were succeeding."
Friday was our last day.....we had thought it would never come!!!Friday was to be "four-man" rowing.  WHO is his right mind would be so stupid as to volunteer to do ANYTHING with us!!!
But, wonder of wonders!!! Up stepped the two Animals who had played doubles tennis with us, actually VOLUNTEERING to be our rowing partners.
And it was a truly good thing they did!! The instructors announced that we were to row to the other side of the lake.......NOT across the cove....but ALL the way across the entire lake.  Ft. Cobb, folks, is no small body of water.
The two animals put us in the middle, took control, and four hours later...I am not exaggerating....FOUR HOURS LATER...we arrived at the southern tip of the lake.
Without their expertise, we would have been in a world of hurt!!!
There, the instructors awaited us, with beer and steaks on the grill. Thanks to those two Animals, we left with a completely different attitude toward the Animals and Amazons.  We even changed our opinion of the instructors after the feast they had laid out for us....and a couple of beers!! !
Oh, by the way, we both got "A's!!! We certainly didn't deserve them, but I learned early on that to try to change an instructor's mind about a grade NEVER WORKS!

So, we humbly took our "A's" and went on our way...wiser and determined never, ever to do that again!!
