Obama Keeps Promise to Keep America Informed

President Obama promised the American people that if he were elected, he would provide transparency in all phases of his administration.  He now has taken that step with the establishment of a new website entitled Recovery.gov  Here are some excerpts. />
Welcome to Recovery.gov
=
/>
Recovery.gov is a website that lets you, the taxpayer, figure out where the money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is going. There are going to be a few different ways to search for information. The money is being distributed by Federal agencies, and soon you'll be able to see where it's going -- to which states, to which congressional districts, even to which Federal contractors. As soon as we are able to, we'll display that information visually in maps, charts, and graphics.

TheAmerican Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be carried out with full transparency and accountability -- and Recovery.gov is the centerpiece >of that effort. In a short video, President Obama describes the site and talks about how you'll be able to track the Recovery Act's progress< every step of the way.

Where is Your Money Going?
> />The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act targets investments towards key areas that will save or create good jobs immediately, while also laying the groundwork for long-term economic growth. The charts and numbers below give you an idea of where the money is going. />Over the upcoming months, we will provide more information on the distribution of funding by Federal agencies. In order to give small businesses and Americans across the country a chance to apply for recovery dollars to create and save jobs, some funding may not be distributed until this summer. New information on the allocation of funds will be posted on Recovery.gov as it becomes available. />
Where is your money going- This chart gives you the breakdown of allocations by categories.
== />
* Tax Relief - includes $15 B for Infrastructure and Science, $61 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $25 B for Education and Training and $22 B for Energy, so total funds are $126 B for Infrastructure and Science, $142 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $78 B for Education and Training, and $65 B for Energy. />State and Local Fiscal Relief - Prevents state and local cuts to health and education programs and state and local tax increases.

/>

This is just a very brief summary of the information on the website.  There is much much more, including more explanatory material, the mission statement, the act itself, a projected timeline,  a link to the entire bill, an invitation to sign up to receive regular updates, a section for offering suggestions as to how the stimulus bill is or is not- working to help you.

/>
These are all our tax dollars at work.  I hope Republicans and Democrats alike will make this website regular reading to stay abreast of how well the stimulus bill meets its goals.
