Hatred of HomeworkI
I feel for both my daughters. They each have a child who can find more ways to avoid doing homework than Carter has liver pills. Each literally has to sit with them at the table to keep them focused; else they are up getting a drink, drawing a picture, calling a friend, or running to their room to get their ipod or some other something.Â
It's especially frustrating for Holly because she was always so self-motivated. I never even had to ask her if her homework was done. I always knew it was; and I also knew her report card was going to be all "A's" Kenna had to be encouraged a little more; however, once she started she focused on the task at hand until she finished it.
Â
Even when the grandchildren finally get around to doing their work, they rush through it as fast as they can, making errors they would not make if they would just take a little more time.
Grandson will be 15 in just a few days. He's a freshman; college is not that far away for him; Big Sissy is in the fifth grade; but already Holly worries about how she will do in high school and college if her attitude does not change. Â
Nonetheless, here's my message to these two special kids whom I love so much. Look to your mothers for inspiration. Look at what they have accomplished and determine to make them proud. Both of you have all the intelligence in the world and your parents will see to it that you have every opportunity to become successful adults. Help them just a little along the way.Â

And Things Were Going So Well
Just when it seemed as though the Sooner men and women were going to sweep to Big 12 titles with ease, injury reared its ugly head.
The Sooner men, 25-1, and 11-0 atop the conference were in a position to take over the number one spot in the nation at Texas Saturday night.
But that did not happen as OU's All-American and National Player of the Year candidate, left the game early with two quick fouls. When he returned, he played just three minutes before suddenly nearly collapsing after taking a shot across his nose and a couple of head butts. On the bench his nose bled as he appeared sick and unable to focus. At halftime he had to be led to the locker room. An MRI the next day confirmed that he had suffered a severe concussion.
Texas went on to win the game, dropping OU into a tie with Kansas, who was coming to town Monday night, to play for the Big 12 title. With their star still on the bench, the Sooners were unable to corrall the Jayhawks, who walked away with the Big 12 crown.

And Still More Bad News
The OU women were riding that same "Sooner Magic" train with a 20-game-winning streak and a #2 national ranking when they took on the #7 ranked Baylor women. They survived that game but their star outside shooter, Whitney Hand, broke her non-shooting hand, requiring surgery the next day.
Last night at Texas A & M, the Sooner women committed a record 29 turnovers, seeming unable to focus with Hand out of the game. They fell 59-58 to a less talented squad. They can still win the Big 12 if they can sweep their last four games, but Hand will be out at least four weeks.
Here's my message to my beloved Sooners. Adversity comes to us all; life is not always what we make it but how we take it. You guys are Sooners; that makes you part of a special fraternity that can rise above this, and I know you will. I have faith!

Last weekend reminded me of another time when Valentines Day fell on Saturday with my birthday following the next day. What a special weekend that was. I know that someone else remembered it too. Here's my message to you, my forever sweetheart. It's funny how someone can break your heart, but you still love them with all the little pieces.
