Even Though Grandson Celebrated His Fifteenth Birthday Yesterday....
I still see him like this in my mind's eye......a precious little leprechaun
Yesterday, we celebrated Grandson's fifteenth birthday.Â
I hardly recognize him these days. He has this deep voice that doesn't
belong to him; he finds it hard to throw his arms around my neck and
proclaim how much he loves me, and he wouldn't dream of begging me to
take him out for a breakfast--just the two of us--to our favorite
family restaurant.
Yet, he still clings to his love for me, as evidenced yesterday when he stated that the only people he wanted at his birthday dinner were his mom and me.Â
He requested a carrot cake and fried flounder for his birthday meal.Â
So, we went to eat at his favorite seafood restaurant where he relished
his flounder. When we returned home, his carrot cake was waiting. His
mom had made it for him before we left.
Later in the day, Holly called to wish him a happy birthday. When she was speaking with Kenna, Kenna mentioned that he had wanted a carrot cake for his birthday. Now, Holly, who has to be the pickiest eater that I have ever known, stated, "I DON'T do cakes made with VEGETABLES!!" Then Kenna mentioned that Grandson had requested fried flounder for his birthday meal. "Argh," Holly responded. It would take a hunger strike to force fish of any kind down Holly's throat. Yesterday was a gorgeous day with the temperature in the 70's; quite a contrast from the day Grandson finally got around to putting in an appearance. That day we got a foot of snow. When he finally arrived, via an emergency C-section, he had this little fuzz of blond hair and big blue eyes, just like his dad. His dad and I had been making good-natured bets as to who he would like. I, of course, fully expected him to have dark hair and eyes. But Shawn kept insisting, "My family has strong genes."
"So does mine,"Â I responded.
Needless to say, Shawn won that argument.Â
Even today he has dark blond hair and blue eyes!  Now, Little Buddy and
Big Sis! They are the typical children of a Half Irish/ HalfSpanish-Indian/English grandmother! Big brown eyes! High Cheekbones! Dark Hair! Creamy complexions! I must say it is nice to have one maverick in the family though.
