Frustrations

I am so frustrated with my grandson that I just don't know what to do. In many ways he's a good kid. He doesn't do drugs; he loves his mom dearly; he makes decent grades in school. But, at the same time, his room constantly looks as if a tornado went through it; he drops his clothes where he takes them off; he never picks up a towel when he showers; and he gripes and complains every time I ask him to help me with something around the house or flatly refuses.
The bad part about it is that my hands are tied. His mother lets him get away with his slovenly habits and his bad attitude, so there's little I can do about it.  She feels its her job--not mine--to discipline him; the only problem is that she spoils him and babies him to death.
So, I'm the one who constantly picks up after him because she works so hard to support the two of them that I just don't have the heart to put more of a burden on her.  The only reason I'm living with them now is to help her financially after her company went bankrupt because of the recession.
She had to take a job for significantly less than she had been making. Without my help, she would have lost her home.
I would like to be in Texas helping with the girls right now.  Holly is having to travel so much with her job that they need me; but I can't be two places at one time.  And I can't pull my financial support from Kenna until the economy improves.  Right now, her salary is frozen by her new company, so she can't even look forward to a raise.
Holly had to fly back to New Zealand this week and she is going to have to go back again in April.  She may even have to make a fourth trip.  This whole issue with the Crown has really escalated.  The arbitrators gave each side a set of concessions to meet.  So, she and her assistant are in Wellington this week at their New Zealand location meeting with the company reps there working on the arbitrator's mandates.
She will be back on Friday just in time for her entire contingent of in-laws to descend upon her home for Easter.  Bevan's brother, wife and two pre-school kids from San Antonio; his mother and father who are divorced; but  the woman uses her ex-husband for rides when she wants to go somewhere, and his bachelor brother from Moore.
Not a one of them turns a tap to help when they visit.  By the time they leave,  the house will be a total wreck.  Holly will be worn out; I'm sure she would just love to have a quiet week-end at home.
I don't know if Bevan invited them or if they invited themselves, which they do with regularity.  He doesn't have the fortitude to tell them not to come, and Holly won't if Bevan won't.
Well, that's their problem; I've got my hands full here.
