I can't always see what doctors see on x-rays; but the minute he put these on the screen, I saw the line between the two bones and there was no cushion of any kind there.
Both are equally deteriorated. I guess it's time they got a break. My two faithful companions have never failed me in all these years. They've carried me many a mile without a complaint, have endured lots of punishment from my days in competitive and recreational sports, have obligingly bent with me thousands of times to pick up a precious baby; have been there for me when I scrubbed floors, stooped to sort and load laundry, crawled about my flower gardens, and searched under furniture for lost treasures. Not once did either of them fail me--no sprains, no tears--just quiet, reliable service.
As a reward, they got a shot of cortisone today. However, surgery is on the horizon-- whenever I am ready. I told the doctor that if the cortisone could hold me until fall, that I would prefer to wait until then.
I need to coordinate with the girls as to when each might be available to help. Since I will need two surgeries, I am hoping that each can take a few days off to help with one or the other. When I had my back surgery, I had the first just before Thanksgiving and the second right after. Often if I can schedule around a holiday, they can get by missing less work time.
That's the story on that.
Have a good weekend. Try to take a little time for the big guy upstairs. He's kind of like us teachers. He doesn't have to have a whole loaf of bread to keep him going; just toss a few crumbs his way from time to time. You will be amazed what He will give back to you in return.
Here are a few words to ponder on those nights when it's hard to sleep. I have a lot of those these days:
1A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
2Rich and poor have this in common:
The Lord is the Maker of them all.
3A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge,
but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
4Humility and the fear of the Lord
bring wealth and honor and life.
5In the paths of the wicked lie thorns and snares,
but he who guards his soul stays far from them.
6Traina a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it.
7The rich rule over the poor,
and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,
and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9A generous man will himself be blessed,
for he shares his food with the poor.
10Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife;
quarrels and insults are ended.
11He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious
will have the king for his friend.
12The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge,
but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside!â€
or, “I will be murdered in the streets!â€
14The mouth of an adulterer is a deep pit;
he who is under the Lord’s wrath will fall into it.
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.
16He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth
and he who gives gifts to the rich—both come to poverty.
