Many people believe that the word "Fan" is just a shortened version of the word "Fanatic".
Not so!! "Fan" is a shortened version of an English word, "Fance", probably first used to describer followers of boxing in England. "Fanatic", on the other hand derives from the Latin word, "Fanaticus", meaning in English an "insane person".
Now,
people can be fans of a sports team, a celebrity, company, product,
activity, trend, group or persons, a work of art, a political figure,
an ideal, etc.
Even
though the two words do not derive from the same source, we have come
to think of one who takes his love or his dislike too far as being a
fanatic.
That person becomes so obsessed with something that he carries it to extremes, sometimes with disastrous results; ie, brawls at sporting events, stalking celebrities or sports figures, disrupting public forums, carrying weapons in public etc.
Fanatics
get so fixated on a subject that they no longer can function as
well-balanced adults. Their fanaticism so invades every thought, every
action, every reaction that they come literally to hate anyone who
holds with a different view.
And
that is when these people become dangerous and a threat to our
society. They curse those who disagree; they call them names; they
try to discredit them with lies and misinformation; they scream and
yell to disrupt peaceable assemblies;Â they refuse to listen to reasonable explanations as to why their logic is distorted.
In
short, everything in their lives begins to revolve around their
fanaticism. They refuse to write, talk, or think about anything else
without tainting it with their obsessive belief.
Why
are they a danger to our society? First, they are trying to rule by mob. They attack in droves if anyone dares disagree. They come to meetings on buses, screaming and wearing guns. Are these the kinds of people we want representing our country? I shudder to think what the world looking on must be thinking of America right now.
In addition, eventually, one of them is
going to cross the next threshold and assassinate someone or set off a
bomb to kill hundreds, maybe thousands of innocent people. If they
don't do it, they will be responsible for inciting someone with a mind
like Timothy McVeigh to precipitate such an act.
If
these people do not get a grip before it is too late, they are going to
be responsible for ripping apart our society. We won't have to worry
about Islamic terrorists; we will destroy ourselves.
If you would like to help stop these people, write to your senators and the President in support of his policies. Let them know we will not be highjacked by their terrorist tactics. Be sure to mention support for health care. NO CO-OPS!!! Here are the links:
