A local radio station here in OKC has launched a "Bras For The Cauz" campaign to promote the fact that this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The idea is to have people in various parts of Oklahoma City and the state to call in to volunteer to serve as "captains". The "captains" then solicit for bra donations, which will be brought to a location yet to be determined. I haven't the slightest idea what the station members plan to do with all these bras. Auction them?
Anybody in the mood for a used bra? The whole thing seems like a dumb idea and a waste of time to me. There are so many better things they could have done.
Of course the most notable event that occurs all over the nation during the month of October is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Oklahoma City's 5K race drew 16,000 entrants this past weekend.
Various doctors and nurses also offer free breast cancer screenings during the month. So, there is no excuse for any woman in need of a mammogram not to get one. Check your local paper for times and dates in your neighborhood.
Well, on to less important but nonetheless other significant events this month. One of the biggest every year for Oklahoma and Texas football fans is the "Red River Shootout". Let's call a spade a spade! It's not a matter of these two teams and fans not liking one another; they HATE one another; and no one in Texas or Oklahoma would have it any other way!!
The game is unique in that it is played every year in Dallas right at the height of the Texas State Fair. Contested in the Cotton Bowl on the fairgrounds, the pageantry and spectacle of the game cannot be equaled by any other major sports rivalry. The teams alternate as the "home" team, which means nothing, other than which will wear his "home" jersey.
Always held the second weekend in October, Cotton Bowl officials split the tickets right down the middle with half going to OU and half to Texas.
In six of the last eight years, the winner moved on to play for the national championship; and that very well could be the case this year!! It has become a cliche that as the OU/Texas game goes, so goes the season!
This game should be a classic among classics with OU coming in ranked No. 1 and Texas entering the tilt ranked No. 5. Both teams feature powerful running and passing attacks led by their premier quarterbacks. Outstanding redshirt sophomore Sam Bradford directs the Sooner machine while junior Colt McCoy, a three-year starter, leads the Longhorns.
On paper, these teams could not be more evenly matched. Look for this game to be won by the team that makes the fewer mistakes. Kick-off is 11 a.m. on ABC before a national television audience.
I just wish you could be here to watch it with me.

maybe they revamp them and re sell them
