Baseball, Little Buddy, and Birthdays

In honor of my dad, who passed away 43 years ago yesterday,  I'm devoting the first part of this post to baseball.  He was the quintessential baseball fan.  I watched so many baseball games growing up that one would think I would be a total devotee of the sport.

However, college football is my passion.  I find baseball a bit slow.  I will say this though.  Because my dad and brothers lived, ate, and breathed baseball, I have a head full of facts about the great baseball legends that is taking up space in my already cluttered brain.  About the only use I have found for this "data" is  doing a crossword or playing trivial pursuit.  So, I guess it does serve some purpose.
Another reason I am "talking baseball" today is because I will be meeting my Illinois family in St. Louie Saturday.  Sunday, we are going to see the Cardinals play.  Their stadium is in the heart of downtown.  Parking is a nightmare, so I'm taking my handicap sticker, hoping we can get within a half mile or so of the park.
I'm making the trip now also to be with Little Buddy on her sixth birthday, which is the 28th.  I have not missed one of her birthdays yet; and she made me promise at Christmas that I would come for a visit on her birthday.
She has reminded me faithfully time and again that I am going to be there.  When they went to Disney World over Spring Break, I asked her before the trip if she was excited.
"Yes," she said," but I'm  also excited about your coming to see me."
Now, how can one resist that kind of devotion?  To have her be as excited about my visit as a trip to Disney World.  That is love!
She thinks I make these trips exclusively for her.  I do miss my daughter and Big Sissy too; but Little Buddy claims exclusive rights when I visit.  We sometimes have to slip away for me to spend time with the other two.
Speaking of Little Buddy, she FINALLY lost her first tooth last week.  The child has been checking every tooth regularly for the last two years to see if one was loose.  She WANTS to be BIG so badly; and I want her to stay LITTLE just as passionately.
Six, alas, really does signal the end of the "baby days", though.
Until next time....
