because that's just the way we live. we don't "murder" and "neglect" them, we eat them in order to survive. we love our pets simply because human beings need to develop their sense of loving and caring, and it matters. i just don't see it as a form of discrimination. so, yeah, i think i've found the connection .
i think i ruined the color code. i'll fix it as soon as i finish reading about cosmic microwave background radiation (and no, i don't know what that is either!).

this is a more detailed version of my reply to deb-teacherwoman "The word gay originally meant someone who exudes a joyful personality. In modern usage, the word coincides with a sexual orientation to people of the same sex. The grouping of gays and lesbians is described as the gay community. The word comes from the Old French word “gai,†which meant “bright colored.†Gay was synonymous with words like joyful, mirthful, jovial, jolly etc. The meaning of the word “gay,†changed dramatically in the 20th century. The word began to attain sexual connotations in the later part of the 17th century when a person of a gay nature was found to indulge in sexual pleasures and loose behavior. The meaning of the word extended from “jovial†to “uninhibited in seeking pleasure.†By the late 19th century, the word “gay†was associated with extramarital affairs, prostitution and other immoral forms of sexual behavior. Willingness to experiment sexually disregarding all sexual mores and convention by indulging in sexual relations with people of the same sex was included as a form of gay behavior, by the beginning of the 19th century. By the middle of the century, the term “gay†was changed to imply people who had sexual orientation to people of the same sex." thanks-hope this helps!
