No. I'm not talking about soap. A friend of my daughter had a surplus of soup she made and I ended up getting a container of it. It was coconut soup with shrimp. There were plenty of big shrimp but the flavor was a bit.....soapy. Even my wife who is allergic to shrimp said the soup smelled like laundry detergent. I wouldn't go that far to say that but what the hell is in it that it tasted like soap? So...I looked up coconuts and read an acid called lauric acid is in coconut oil that tastes like soap. Then I found out these green shreds in the soup were cilantro...another ingredient that can taste like soap to some people who have some kind of olfactory defective gene which detects this soapy taste that others can't sense. I did finish two big bowls of the soup. I added some Splenda to make it a tad sweeter but now it was a sweeter soapy taste. If it wasn't for the jumbo shrimp which the chef was very generous with, I would have stopped after my first slurp.
