When Adam and Eve sinned, they felt ashamed and were “laid bare†before God, but He had compassion on them. An animal was killed, and its skin was used to cover their nakedness, symbolic of covering their sins. This was the first sacrifice (shedding of blood) which points to the ultimate sacrifice which was Jesus Christ.
When we sin, we may try to cover it from others, but we cannot hide it from God. We feel ashamed, but God has already had compassion on us. His own Son was sacrificed so that we are covered by His blood shed for us. However, we cannot keep sinning and think that is okay because our sins have been taken care of.
If we really understand what God has done for us through the sacrifice of His Son, we will be so grateful that we will want to honor and obey Him in all we do. We will be in the fight against sin as long as we live. As we fight the battle, we will get frustrated and discouraged, but we must remember one thing that will give us victory — Jesus is our mighty Warrior fighting for us, and we are covered by Him.
