“Grandmother, can I help you?†my 4-year-old granddaughter, Yelena, asked. Within minutes we had completed three major task: clearing the table, loading the dishwasher and sweeping the kitchen floor. What a boost her offer of help had given me. Yet what if I had refused it? What if I thought I could do better or move faster on my own? Simple put, I would have missed out on the opportunity for further bonding with my granddaughter.
In a similar way, I’ve missed opportunities for more bonding with God by not accepting His help. Thankfully, I can recall and rely on the words from Psalm 121:1-2 (HCSB). “I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.â€
What encouragement this promise brimgs, for the Lord is not only the maker of heaven and earth, but also the maker of grandchildren who offer help.

While visiting in St. Augustine, Fla., I decided to surprise my grandchildren with a helicopter ride over the beach. The pilot put the children’s great-aunt and 8-year-old grandson in the back seat and my 4-year-old granddaughter, Samantha, in the front left seat.As the pilot got in to begin the the flight, he noticed tears running down Samantha’s cheeks and asked her what was wrong. Know ing where passengers and drivers are supposed to sit in cars, she wailed, “But I don’t want to drive!â€
