Sausage or Mushroom Pinwheel Bread

I made this for supper tonight. The olives do a great deal to give it flavor, so don't leave them out, but feel free to substitute for the other filling ingredients. It didn't really taste like a calzone, maybe due to the potatoes. If it was served with tomato sauce it would have that calzone feel to it.

Stuffed Sausage Bread
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 pound Italian Turkey and Sun Dried Tomato sausage
(or substitute chopped portobello mushrooms for the meat)
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped cooked potato
3/4 cup freshly shredded mozzarella cheese (I used cheddar)
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup chopped green olives (or sliced black olives)
1/2 cup chopped green onions (green and white parts)
1 package frozen bread dough, thawed, or your favorite recipe
1 egg beaten with 1 teaspoon water
(Sesame seeds)

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium high heat. Brown sausage 5 minutes, stirring and breaking up as it cooks. Add chopped onion and cook 5 minutes more. Add potato and cook 1 more minute. In lag bowl, combine sausage mixture with cheese, olives, and green onions. Cool filling while you prepare dough. Follow package directions up to rolling bread dough. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Divide dough in half and roll each piece into a 10 by 12 inch rectangle. Brush edges with egg and water mixture and spread half the filling to within 1/2 inch of the edges. Roll up dough jelly roll style and brush seams and edges with egg mixture, pinching to seal. Repeat with other half of dough and filling.

Place on baking sheet oiled with olive oil. Brush the top with some of the egg mixture, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Bake until lightly browned, about 25 minutes. Let cool, slice, and serve warm. This can be varied to use many different flavors of sausage and fillings.
