Hot Cider

Here are a couple hot beverages made with cider or apple juice, which is the same thing as cider.

Brandy Cider Tea
2 cups freshly brewed strong black tea (I used reg. Lipton's orange pekoe)
1/3 cup sugar
4 cups cider or apple juice, heated
1 1/4 cups orange juice
1/2 cup brandy
1 lemon, sliced

Combine in a saucepan and heat just until hot enough to serve, stirring to dissolve the sugar.

Hot Cranberry Cider
1 quart apple cider or apple juice
1 (32 oz) jar cranberry juice
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup brown sugar
8 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks

Combine in a saucepan and simmer for about 10 minutes.

Last winter I bought some Mike's Hard Lemonade in Spiced Cider flavor. It was so very good heated up and served with a cinnamon stick, better than it was when chilled.

That recipe came from the Realemon bottle, which I figure is why it calls for so much lemon juice.

Great recipes! One of my ex-husband's and my favorite Halloween traditions was to serve hot mulled cider on the front porch along with fresh cookies and candy treats. We had two large crock pots simmering away, one with a touch of brandy and the other nonalcoholic. It was great fun to visit with our neighbors and their kids.

That sounds like a wonderful tradition that made for good memories. It's finally getting nippy here, signs of fall, so hot drinks sound so appealing.
