Nyngan Northwest New South Wales

Still being on the main highway to Brisbane the road being 2 lanes was in good condition only travel at 85- 90km hour so had time to look around not many trucks or even caravans on this stretch to Nyngan .
The reason for lighter traffic is that at Cobar there is another road to Bourke and all points north , so this part where on is the base of a triangle as Bourke is our next stop after NYNGAN.
Was another great drive , they have had reasonable rain recently although the drought has yet to break , more goats and emus, with clumps of prickly pear showing up , it is a declared noxious weed , would hate the job of removing it , as now there are more hills and runoff creeks for it to get into , Flood way warnings are posted along the road as well as the watch out for stock signs-dangerous to drive at night—kangaroos for next 20 km –but yet we haven't seen a live Roo for ages. Nothing than goats and more goats, at least they keep off the road you only see them in between the trees ( their not stupid like sheep ) at least with cattle you can see them ambling across the road now and then.
We had been told the caravan park was a good place to spend a few days as its on the Bogan river and you can camp with power on the green lawns and fish out the door if you want to ( or nearly ). $ 22 a night so we booked in from Friday till Monday , before going into town 3km away we put up the tent changed the fridge over to 240 volt from 12 and generaly settled in , it was a hot 30 deg so Cath got the aircon going to cool the van down, she hates the heat so promptly went inside for a coffee.
Heres a storm front approaching it blew a bit but hardly any rain, locally 2 to 4 mm was the best some properties got, others nothing it rocked the van a bit 2 showers and it was gone--- am good at putting in tent pegs the tent was still standing.

will finish today with a bit about the shire and continue later

Bogan Shire, situated in Western New South Wales, has an area of 14,610 square kilometres, equivalent to about 1.8% of the State's land surface. The geographical centre of the State lies within the Shire boundaries. The Shire has an estimated population of 3220 with the headquarters, Nyngan, having an estimated population of 2500. Located on the Bogan River at the junction of the Mitchell and Barrier Highways - an ideal rest point for the traveller. The Shire has an abundance of productive agricultural land for sheep and cattle production and large scale cropping enterprises. Nyngan's farmers are highly competitive on local and international markets and the large quantity of agricultural produce is conducive to the development of value adding industries and marketing ventures. Nyngan offers warm hospitality and all the facilities of a modern rural township. Three Motels, two Caravan Parks and Hotels provide a choice of accommodation options. Three licensed Clubs cater for entertainment and relaxation. The town also boasts a selection of restaurants and take-away food outlets for dining. The Bogan Shire has a high school, five primary schools, a pre-school, a mobile pre-school, TAFE Campus, and training facilities at the Nyngan NetWork. Nyngan's medical needs are catered for by the Nyngan Hospital and are supported by a network of health professionals and amenities including a nursing home complex, baby health centre and community health centre. The recreational and sporting facilities in Nyngan are excellent and include facilities for bowls, golf, tennis, dancing, swimming, rugby union, rugby league, touch football, cricket, netball, fishing, soccer, little athletics and pony club.
