Entering the town all seemed normal a few houses and a park , but then the main street came up and it was a real eye opener for me, the supermarket –hotel – and another shop had no windows or had security screens in place , the service station was open but had screens ready to put up when he closed .
I didnt worry about the caravan park one look at the town was enough, I just filled my tank and moved off.
What beats me , across the road from the service station was an aboriginal community centre with people coming and going all nice and peaceful, others lounging outside the hotel and supermarket but the place seemed dead.
There is no industry here or employment, it is the local tribes homeland but nobody seems to care a damn and all are receiving government assistance the same as anyone else on unemployment and pensions, have heard their money goes on booze first then food , one would think their elders would do something about the way they live its a bloody shame, even the Darling there was only quarter full and was as muddy as all hell , I was glad to leave.
By this time we were traveling north east, on the way to Cobar a gold mining town with cattle being raised for the southern market , it was a complete turnaround from the way we had come , halfway between, the bush became greener, even wildflowers appeared more emus and goats and the odd kangaroo jumping around , plenty of dead Roos on the road to show just how hazardous it can be at night.
Cobar's located on the Crossroads of the Kidman Way and the Barrier Highway which makes it the ideal place to experience the outback life. Set amongst a truly unique,semi-arid landscape, Cobar is enriched with many interesting, friendly people within this strong and passionate community. Cobar is steeped in a wealth of aboriginal, mining and agricultural history.

It was late evening by the time we arrived here and the temp was up to 32 deg -no aircon in the cab so we were both ready for a meal -shower and bed , the meal we got from a truck stop across the road the shower was at the spotless caravan park and the bed would have been alright except for the amount of trucks getting fueled across the road not much sleep

Next day we had a good look around the town in the morning and as it was 4 hour drive at my speed over to Nyngan we left just after lunch ----continued
