I was sorry to read about the behavior of US troops there & then. My BIL's father served during WW2 in Dawson, AU, I believe, not Brisbane, and got to ride a horse around and it was a time he loved to remember.

my father joined in 1940 -died in 1960 a warrant officer had full military funeral

USA troops were millionaires by our pay standard which caused friction amongst our troops by getting all the girls lol

As far as I heard he was not involved in battles, but probably supplies, etc.

was only six at the time but can remember asking a soldier to show me his funny money -a cent coin- the local traders got into the act opening American style milk bars, looking at it now I do wonder how many survived --also after the war the ANZUS TREATY was signed- though NEW ZEALAND will not allow USA nuclear-powered ships into their harbours.
