Take Action ... Now!

Do you know someone who constantly complains about something? They spend more time causing an uproar than doing something about it. Maybe this even describes you.

The reason I thought about this particular topic is because I confronted a person who was excatly like the person I just described. My response to that person was, ”What are you going to do about it?” Honestly, the world is full of things to complain about and unfairness exists in our lives daily. I would think if a person was so upset about a certain issue, they would want to do something about it and form some sort of plan to take immediate action. It’s unfortunate these folks do just the opposite, and assume some other entity should take care of the problem.

There are always exceptions for the reasons a person complains; however, when it comes down to where it seems they enjoy the sound of their own voice, it becomes more disturbing than anything.

We in the GLBT community have an endless amount of issues and unfairness, and we have every right to bring them up for attention. Certainly gay marriage is the latest hot topic. Therefore, if you are extremely upset with how certain issues are handled, what are you doing to bring this issue into a discussion for possible solutions? Many will say, “I can’t make a difference alone”. Ah…just the contrary.

There are many people who are making a difference worldwide, all because they decided enough was enough and took action. If you do a little research or read the newspaper, you will find gay people making an impact just by doing what they were meant to do. Sometimes, they are forced to come out and admit to the world that they are gay, but I would bet after the fuss dies down, they are relieved that they don’t have to hide it anymore. Just in the last few years, we have seen actors, rock stars, politicians, movie producers, etc come out and the world didn’t end because of it. In fact, I see a lot of good in them doing this as it tells us we can be whatever we want. Even on a local level, gay people are getting involved in politics and community functions. We don’t always have to be carrying a rainbow flag. We can just be involved in life like everyone else and let people see we aren’t that different at all. We basically want the same things that straight people want…..acceptance, love, respect, and the right to live our lives without fear.

So the next time you hear someone complaining, ask them the simple question, “What are you going to do about it?” If they aren’t willing to do anything, then it’s time to move on and not waste our time complaining about it.

Until next time, get involved and enjoy life!
