Our 17 year old, Alicia, never ceases to amaze me. She wrote this for her baby sister a few days ago and posted it on one of the sites that she goes to. She is capable of so much....


For my wonderful sister Kayleigh, who has taught me more these nine months than in my entire life.

My Kayleigh,
You lie there on the bed,
Not even a year yet.

You look at me with those sad eyes.
“Sissy why don’t you stop them?”
“Sissy make the pain go away.”
“Sissy why aren’t you holding me?”


Baby girl I know you don’t understand
Why you’ve had surgery twice this week,
Why they won’t let you roll around or eat.


I wish you knew it was all for the best,
But you don’t.

And oh god those eyes, those mournful eyes.
“Sissy why do you stand there?”
“Sissy help me, it hurts”
You can’t speak but I hear you.


I wish you knew how much I miss
Waking up to your smiles,
Your sloppy kisses.

Baby girl I know you don’t understand,
Please get well soon angel,
And rest knowing,
Although you can’t speak,
I hear you baby.
