LOS ANGELES -- Actor Bernie Hamilton may be most remembered for his role as no-nonsense police captain Harold Dobey in "Starsky and Hutch."
Hamilton's son said that the 80-year-old actor and music producer died Tuesday at a Los Angeles hospital of cardiac arrest.
Hamilton appeared in more than 20 films, including "The Young One," "The Devil at 4 O'Clock," "Synanon," "The Swimmer," "Walk the Walk" and "The Organization."
He also had guest appearances on television series before becoming a regular on the 1970s police drama starring Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul.
His son said that it was Hamilton's role in that series that brought him continued recognition.
