Storm uproots trees, damages homes in Lawrenceburg
Lawrenceburg, >Severe storms swept across middle and southern Tennessee Friday uprooting trees and damaging several homes.
At least one person was injured in Lawrence County in the storms that produced heavy rain, hail and high winds.
A possible tornado damaged homes in an area about five miles west of Lawrenceburg.
The Tennessee Valley Authority power lines said were damaged, causing widespread power outages.
National Weather Service forecasters said officials saw a funnel cloud in the area, but there have been no witnesses to a tornado touchdown.
Marshall County emergency management officials said a medical helicopter crew reported spotting a tornado on the ground east of Lawrenceburg, near Interstate 65.
Some power lines were knocked down in northern Giles County.
The damaging storms come in the same week that heavy rains led to flooding in parts of West and Middle Tennessee.
Colder air will arrive Friday night and remain for the next four days.
Highs Saturday will only reach in to the upper 50s, a drastic change from Thursday's high of 81 degrees.
Rain is the in the forecast for Sunday and, in some areas, most likely on the Plateau, it could start as a rain/snow mix.
Lows by Monday and Tuesday morning will be in the 30s and frost is possible Tuesday morning.
** This is what passed thru middle TN. this afternoon...according to the news 53 homes were damaged. At the house only tree limbs down...so we were lucky.
