Dog People, Kid People, and the Rest of the People

I have noticed for a while now and i have been keeping track of what
people say & do OR not say & do as i pass them on the street.
It depends on if i have a dog(s) with me or not and what KIND of dog(s)
i have by my side.

Since i became a dog-walker 3 years ago i have personally started more
conversations with strangers than i ever have before. I have made some
good friends with other dog people and people with children. I often
have little ones running up to us (which i disagree with, you NEVER
know how a dog will react! ALWAYS as permission to pet a dog!!) They
will want to play ball with us. I am thankful that Lucy LOVES to play
ball and she will gladly play with anyone who holds a ball! If we pass
a carriage on the street and a little kid is all smiles Sometimes mom
will stop as let the child see the dogs. or even older kids we will
slow our pace and say hi.

    Sometimes
if i am walking and a person who is alone passes us i will smile and
nod or say hi. Now depending on what kind of dog i have with me for
example if i have my girls people will smile back and say hi and oh
what BEAUTIFUL dogs you have! If i have a "scary" looking type dog ( i
walk a pit/cattle dog mix and i also walk an english setter who may
look a little intimidating) the people who walk by me will not take
their eyes off the dog even if i say hi.

Then
i find it really interesting that if i happen to be walking without a
dog (which is very rare these days) and i say hi to someone they look
at me like i have three heads!! Give me the strangest looks and just
keep walking!

So
i guess my point of this is that i have noticed that if you own a dog
or have a child you will interact with total strangers at any given
time. If you don't you may or may not interact with strangers. It is
just weird to me how it is ok to start a conversation with someone if
you have a dog or kid and if you are alone you will be pegged as weird.

People are afraid of my 2 half lab/bulldogs.One is 100 pounds and the other 85 pounds. They are friendly but their size scares people. My Olde English Bulldogge,Molly,is so sweet, but people tell me she looks mean.Nobody approaches us when we walk.I laugh because she is so overweight and couldn't catch them anyway. My Boston terrier and cocker mix get lots of attention because they are cute and small, they are my two rescues and they are sweethearts.Well, all 5 are my sweethearts...Laurie

Interesting. I always say Hi to people I pass when I'm out walking or riding my bike. I wave to people who are sitting on their porch... guess I'm weird,

I love dogs, cats are too independent for me. But after recently losing mine, I don't think I can go through that again..ya know.

I love dogs, cats, bears, tigers....who cares as long as it has fur. Dogs are special because they love you so much. Dogs also sense whether or not you are "dog people" and I'm one of those. I never meet a "strange" dog, they all seem to sense that I love them. And I do talk to people walking their dogs a lot!
