Wikipedia: true north

True north is a navigational term referring to the direction of the North Pole relative to the navigator's position. Its concept was first discovered and noted by the Chinese polymath Shen Kuo in the 11th century.

A term used by navigators/explorers as their final destination.

True north is compared to magnetic north (the direction of the Magnetic North Pole) and grid north (the direction northwards along the grid lines of a map projection).

The direction of true north is marked in the skies by the celestial north pole. For most practical purposes, this is the position of Polaris. However, due to the precession of the Earth's axis, true north rotates in an arc that takes approximately 25,000 years to complete. In 2002, Polaris was at its closest approach to the celestial north pole. 2,000 years ago, the closest star to the celestial north pole was Thuban.




I used to believe that happiness could only be found after realizing my heart's desires or arriving at my destinations.
For me, it was to ensure enough $$ to control my own destiny,allowing me to pursue my passions.
Now that I've spent a lot longer on the road from "here" to "there" than I ever thought I would, I've come to an awakening.
I always thought I controlled my own destiny, not always of course.
I just didn't have the common sense to realize it until now.
I've come to learn that the spirit of my journey is just as important, even more perhaps, than the arrival at my destination (but that's good too!)
And whatsmore, I will continue to think about, wish and work towards fulfilling my dreams as I travel life's uncharted territories and find my own personal True North (or True South - whatever the case may be!)
