So, after the past few days, I've had to come to the hard realization that it really IS winter!
The wood is stacked, the yard raked and most other outdoor chores have been completed.
That brings me indoors and to stuff that needs my attention.
I've started priming the trim and doors in my bedroom and am excited and anxious to first, chose the most eye appealing and room enhancing color, and second of all - getting it done before Christmas.
Speaking of which, my gift list is doing quite well, although I still have some odd things to pick up.
Now that the weather has turned (and will continue to do so at a moments notice), I'll have to motor to get to the nearest mall (40 minutes away) to finish that up, with one eye on the sky and the other watching for "black ice."
But before that, I have to get the snow tires on my car.
That happens on Wednesday.
Hunting season ended on the weekend so I'll be able to stop wearing my fluorescent vest and jacket when I go out for a walk and the local grocery store can finally catch up on the seasonal demand for canned hash and beef jerky (and beer).
My son was lucky enough to snag 3 partridges, which are currently in the freezer, and it's been awhile since I've cooked them so I'll will check out some recipes on net later.
I'm always thankful (as I hold back a gag) when folks share their bounty from the hunt but I have to confess that I'm not keen on venison (deer) and the verdict on moose is still out.
The only thing I can live with as far as the "gamey" taste, is lamb. It isn't really "gamey" but has a distinct smell and taste compared to chicken, pork and beef.
I find that even ground venison or moose meat used in spaghetti sauce is challenging to my palate.
It's a way of life here.
I'm a city gal still trying to find her way up here. I think I do pretty well and I know I'd eat ANYTHING if my life depended on it.
Here are a few pictures that I took yesterday after our first significant snow fall.
Gotta love it (not)!
