Beedith's Excellent Adventure

Catching Up

So I went to bed on time for a change, and then lay awake for three frustrating, ache-y hours. My shoulders and legs hurt. Went over to Stephy's blog to find I'd just missed her, and caught up on her comments. I don't agree with her about Mr. Obama, but I admire and respect her passion.

It was pleasantly hot today, clear and sunny and dry. I went out front and pulled weeds, and a stray wildflower. Regretfully -- I love flowers -- but the HOA is very strict about weeds in the front yards. Back yard, anything goes. Said Hello to my next-door neighbor, who apparently doesn't like me and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Sigh. The gardeners came today, so the place looks great again. They trimmed the oleanders beautifully. Sometimes Jose gives them a flat-top cut, but today the lines are more rounded, which I prefer. The blue lantana I thought had died is blooming. So the total death toll has only been one bush, which was cut down today.

Doctor appointments last week kind of sucked, and I have three more this week. My lung diffusion capacity has dropped 20 points since April. I spent some time being upset, but got over it. As Stephy says, Watch me get over it.

Next weekend marks the three-year anniversary of my first hike with the Sierra Club. I plan on driving up to Mt Lemmon and visiting 45-foot-tall pine trees. Dogs are allowed there!

Almost finished reading David Brin's "Kiln People" for the library science fiction club meeting. Next book is Alfred Bester's "The Demolished Man." The Welcome Club's book for August is "To Kill a Mockingbird," followed by a Toni Morrison novel in September. That should be interesting.

Unpacking is finished, and the men came to pick up empty boxes today. A little more space in the garage. Someday we may even be able to park both cars in there. (smile) Most of the artwork has been hung, always the last step in setting up house after a move. Seeing my favorite pictures gives me pleasure. The cleaning lady came Friday. I just love a nice calm organized home. My pre-1990 life was downright chaotic, which may explain my current penchant for and pleasure in a well-ordered house and garden.

Sorry to have missed you, Beedith! How good to have Honeysuckle in your own yard. To see exotica like that here we have to go to the conservatory. Your life is indeed blessed. Lots of hugs.
