But nobody wants us if we're free"

Well yeah, I can see that side: "Not in my back yard!"

But maybe we are missing a great opportunity. I was thinking: Instead of torturing these guys to make them admit to something they probably did not know much about (that is how the network works - need to know basis) why do we not -

Assign to them the very best forensic psychologists we have and make a solid study out of determining the motivations for their hate of America and how they became convinced of that attitude? This information should be very valuable in understanding how to proceed with the "war on terror" (how I hate that term!) in a way to eventually resolve the problems with a minimum of more blood shed. During this time we would treat them like fellow human beings. From this process should evolve which ones could go where. Maybe for a while we would have to "close" the old place, rename it, and reopen it with this new mission.

I remember right after 9-11 my oldest daughter asked me what I thought about it. I said "Well, if someone hates you enough to want to die to hurt you, you had better find out why!" - I still feel that way.
