I have just finished reading Lynnies post, got to admit I had a giggle whilst reading it - she's nuttier than a fruit-cake!! lol
Well this story, comes from a period in our lives that was 'hard', but not at all without it's comical side . . .
I had been working as a 'bar-maid' at a variety of 'Clubs' and 'Public -Houses' (bars). The work was very long and tiring, I have to admit (I remember answering the telephone once in work and greeting the caller with the name of 'another place' that I worked - right in 'ear-shot' of the landlord of the place I was in (he did, pull me up about it afterwards)! doh!
Anyways,
My favoutite meal is a Beef Stew with Dumplings . . .
One evening after I retuned from work, laden with 'treats' i.e. bars of chocolate, cans of Coke - oh yeah . . . and 'fags'!!! For both Lynnette and Nicola (Lynnies Siamese twin)lol lol and of course 'boffin' (no fags for him though)!! lol
As I entered the front door, this absaloutely 'glorious' aroma greeted me. My tummy rumbled immediately in anticipation . . . I followed the trail from where this delicious scent was being emitted; it led to our kitchen!
There on the stove, was simmering a big pan of beef stew . . . and . . . dumplings! WoW, my tummy rumbled louder and louder!
The sound of the frontroom door opening along with the 'tremulous' voices of New Kids on The Block, being subdued, broke my train of thought -
"Hiya Jen"! called Nicola "Hiya mammy" called Lynnette - there voices in unison. "Come and sit down, mammy - I've made you food" spoke Lynnette as she ushered me into my chair at the table. I sat down as prompted (either that or, bewilderment)lol!
Lynnette disappeared into the kitchen with Nicola . . .
They returned with the biggest plate ofstew you could imagine! I was so, impressed with her!
I picked up my knife and fork and dived into my favourite morsel . . . the dumpings! The flavour was totally outstanding! Hats off, to her . . . but (you knew, there'd be a 'but', didn't you?) The dumpling, had 'glued' itself, between my teeth!!!! lol lol lol lol!
They had forgotten to add some suet or something, to them!
I did eat the remainder of the stew, but just 'minus' the dumplings!!
I was so happy, that she had shown me that she did, appreciate the things I was doing for her and her brothers! Goes a long way, in my book.
p.s. Lynnette, I have to admit that sometime, even I, forget about clothes I have laundered and failed to 'hang-out'!! So you are not, on your own . . . (hearts) xxx
That was sweet.
