After many tears yesterday and loss of sleep last night, I figured I would jot down some issues that I cannot seem to find resolve to.......
I have been a die hard Packers fan, for 16 yrs. Not born or raised near Green Bay, Wi., I was bred to be a Bears fan. As fate would have it, I jumped off of that burning wagon and soon found myself proud to wear a block of cheese on my head.
As a woman, we tend to analyze things more than men and dwell. Maybe I am overreacting maybe I am not but I cannot help but wonder....
Favre has all the tools he needs to win a Superbowl, I would say closer than he has since the late 90's. If EVER Favre was going to win a SuperBowl, it would be THIS season.
If his only motivation to stay, is to win a SuperBowl--how could he argue that this is not the prime situation. They would easily win their division, no doubt.
The once, youngest team in the NFL, now has more experience under their belt and led by one of the best QB's in the NFL. There isn't a weakness on that team, that I could think of, not IF Favre was to stay.
Favre proved in 2007-2008, that he is still the Gunslinger that he was 10 years ago and could still compete at the highest of levels, so what happened?
Was it the cold that got to him vs the Giants? I doubt it....was it Randy Moss, highly doubtful. Or was it just the fact that the coaching staff and managers felt it was time to cut Brett Favre and start working on the back-up QB, Rodgers? Rodgers, who has shown us, he is capable of stepping out on the field, snap the ball and find himself on the IR list.
This was the inevitable and I understand that BUT we all thought for sure, he would come back in 2008-2009, at least as playoff contenders and THEN retire--hopefully with 1 more SuperBowl ring.
We know the Organization is going to do what they can to hush the media-----stock is going to plummet, especially if we feel that Favre was given the slightest of push, to hang up his cleats.
I understand if Favre truly needed to retire because he is mentally and physically drained. However, Favre stated in his own words that he knows he can play----how can he say he knows he can play, if he is mentally drained? One cannot play if they have no more fuel in the tank but we all know he does....
Packer fans will never forgive, if Favre was pushed in to an early retirement(I know 17 yrs is not early--but 1 year too soon, in my opinion).
None the less....I am forever grateful to Favre, for the 16 years of memories and his inspiration, to every man and woman who watched him. Because of Favre, I have not missed a game in 16 years--didn't matter where I was, how sick I was, I made sure I watched our #4.
He gave us 1,000,000%, every day he stepped out on the field....I just wish we could give him a little bit of that back.
He is forever; our Favre, our heart, our #4.
It has been an honor and privilege to be a Packer Fan.
