MAMMOTH
LAKES, Calif.--Authorities in rugged eastern California say a hiker has
found items possibly belonging to missing adventurer Steve Fossett.

Inyo
National Forest spokeswoman Nancy Upham said today the items were found
by a hiker in the vicinity of the town of Mammoth Lakes.
Fossett disappeared Sept. 3, 2007, after taking off in a
single-engine plane borrowed from a Nevada ranch owned by hotel magnate
Barron Hilton.

That's really good news for the family. I know it has been hard for them not to know for sure what happened to him. It's really something that there were all the searches of remote areas and this stuff turns up near a town. This was in the Las Vegas paper: "Chances of finding remains are slim, said the attorney (for the hiker who found the identity cards and clothing), who is a longtime resident of the mountain town has followed similar cases. "He's probably been eaten. This is not the first time this has happened," said Baumwohl. "When people land in alpine wilderness, there's bears, mountain lions that'll eat the body."
