Election Odds

Far Left and far Right, who’s actually right? I thought there might be a way to settle the issue to some degree with a bet of some sort on the coming election. Not on the actual outcome, of course. That’s not going to show who right. It’ll just show which way the national balance tips. But there is something in the election process itself that might give us the answer we’re looking for.

For instance, there is a lot of talk going around that this election will produce the highest voter turnout in at least a century. A number of reasons are given for this:

1. An energized youth vote.
Ever since teenagers were given the vote they have been woefully lax in exercising that right. This time, however, they have an opportunity to make history by voting for a near god, a black man and a man with a powerful message – Change (huh?). In addition our nation’s notoriously Left leaning teachers are simply not going to give the kids a day off to do their civic duty and then let them go off instead to play. No doubt the young’uns will be incentivized and motivated right there in our government classrooms to Barack’s certain advantage. The youth vote might raise voter turnout over the last Presidential election by as much as 3% - all on the Dem side.
2. A highly motivated general electorate.
Several things are expected to motivate The People this time; anger with George Bush for the war, anger with congress for its incompetence and corruption, anger over the failure of government to control corporate greed. And most of all there is the outrage over the impending crash of our entire economy. On the positive side there is excitement over the superstar candidate of the Dem Party. The girls are in a complete swoon and even some of the guys are getting a certain tingle up their legs. The energy levels are unquestionably high and are expected to boost voter turnout by another 3% or more – all of it to the Dem’s advantage.
3. Voter Fraud.
The Dems have long and proud tradition of voter fraud but this year promises a new and unheard of level of audacity in criminality. Raising the dead is child’s play for the “Messiah”. Multiplying loaves and fishes? That’s nothing. Barack’s going to multiply voters. Some of the same voters might vote 70 times or more. One of the best ploys in my town is to have ward workers pick up absentee ballots and carry them in to the election board. This trick actually reduces voter turnout, however, because most of the Repub votes never make it to the election board. But over all, with ACORN and the traditional Dem “get out the vote” technicians fabricating voters and votes by the 10’s of thousands the turnout might rise an additional two, three, or even four percent.
In spite of all this Leftist vote fraud they have the moxie to squawk that the system is being unfair to their Party. They’re claiming that the Repubs are cheating using a scam called “caging” (cadging?). By devious means they are getting people thrown off the voting roles because they can’t prove their claims of residence. I don’t believe this scam is real or that if it actually is real it could be effective in the Repubs’ favor. If it worked the Dems would be using it to a far greater extent than the Repubs would. What this is really all about, I believe, is that the Repubs are trying to purge some of the fraudulent voters the Dems have materialized. The squawking from the Left is nothing but a diversion from where the real fraud is taking place.
Considering the above points we might expect an increase in voter participation of 8% - give or take - over the last Presidential election. That probably would be a record breaker. And if that’s true couldn’t we extrapolate that the Right has been right in its claims that the media and our educational system are biased in a Socialist and pro-Obama way? And couldn’t it also be said that voter fraud on the Dem side has overrun the nation and virtually invalidated our electoral process?

Personally I would infer it but no Leftist would buy it. And they certainly wouldn’t bet against me on it. So…

Let’s parse this a little further. Suppose we did get an 8% increase in voter turnout. How much of that increase would go to the Dems and how much to the Repubs? I say all of it will go to the Dems; at least half of it due to voter fraud. I further predict that the Repub voter count will be within a point or two either way of what it was in the last election. No increase will be seen because no fraud will have been committed and because while the driving force of racism is profoundly present in the Dem Party it is not present in the Repub Party as the Left is so fond of proclaiming.

Any Lefty out there who cares to disagree with my estimate is welcome to do so as long as he is willing to back up his disagreement with a small monetary bet. The proposition is simple:

Any increase in voter turnout on the Repub side will be less than half that of the Dems.

Any takers?
