30 Pounds of Oysters

Last week we joined out friends from Ball Ground Ga for 9 days in Pensacola Fla area and after 4-5 days there of fishing and getting zilch, we headed east to the Big Bend area around Apalachicola and camped out in a ni ce spot as by Buddy and his wife have a diesel pusher of a RV. This is Oyster country and we like Oysters. So, we go and get a shucking knife, as my pal knows how to shuck, even though its been 30 years since he last shucked. The place we were sent to is a small oyster business that supplies restaurants and stores. However, they sell only in 60 pound bags. I said, forgettaboutit to my buddy, but he was insistent. We did talk to the folks about the amount and they agreed to 30 pounds. For $10.00 no less. So, we head back to the campground looking forward to a feast. Guess what? Old pal of mine could not quite get the knack of it and we ended up with a dozen raw babies that were exceptional. The next day we saw an old timer shucking and he gave pal of mine some advice. So later that night, we,er,my friend started to shuck and guess what? We got 8 more. The next day we had to leave and I was offered some Oysters to take that I graciously did not take. After getting home, my son said to put the oyster on the grill and that they would open like a clam. This sounds good, but do the oysters still keep their raw taste. When I last spoke to my pal he said that they went to a restaurant and asked how they did it and, voila! He said they finished off the rest of the oysters in no time flat. I hope he is telling me the truth, as he has a tendency to stretch it out a little.. Oh, when we were in Pensacola and not cataching anything, we did venture to our savior, Joe Pattie and obtained 2 pounds of Calamary and 2 Pounds of Shrimp and headed back to the campground and hheated up the Peanut oil and had one heck of a feast. So, the moral of the story is, if you want good seafood, but it.
