Soon to come, May 4, the 40th anniversary of the Kent State College massacre; 4 students murdered, nine other students wounded during 13 seconds of sheer panic and chaos. One can not help but to compare the similarities of today’s political activism and revolt.
Then: Anti-war students exercising their rights as American citizens to peacefully assemble and protest their perception of government irregularities.
Now: Anti-Obama senior citizens exercising their rights as American citizens to peacefully assemble and protest their perception of government irregularities.
Today, just as 40 years ago, unthinking and uncontrolled rhetoric by high government officials effectively place legal activities by American citizens as being criminal and subversive; only because these elected politicians so vehemently disagree with this majority portion of the electorate voters. Now, with grandma and grandpa at their tea-parties being placed on Homeland Security watch lists, can we soon be expecting similar results as 40 years ago?
I hope not, but as is usually the case – what goes around, comes around !!!
