My dog, Shawny, is so sick. She has had multiple tests at the vet and the results show that she has multi-system failure. That means that her internal organs are shutting down. We are trying to treat the one possible illness that can be treated without agressive intervention and hospitalization.
Apparently there have been a few dogs in town that have been diagnosed with listeriosis. That's a serious bacterial illness that was in the news a couple of years ago. At the time,it was spread by tainted processed meats. If you remember, people died from it. I'm waiting for the results of the test done to confirm whether Shawny has listeriosis.
She has stopped eating, her abdomen is swollen and she has numerous other signs of serious illness. From what I've read and what I've experienced with my last dog (who also died of unspecified organ failure), I don't think Shawny is going to live much longer.
The vet said that other causes of her symptoms are essentially not treatable.
It's really hard to watch her going downhill. I'm just spending as much time with her as I can and being gentle with her.
