My kitchen window is beside my seat at the kitchen/everything table. I look out on my neighbours who are friendly, are quiet and, as childless professionals, are fairly well off. They take twice yearly trips overseas, often have a new toy in the driveway (boat, camper, etc). Their home was professionally painted a couple of years ago, they spend lots of time making their garden beautiful.
But as I look out at their house, the thing that I associate with them the most is that the condition of their roof.
With the last windstorm, I can now see down to the lowest/third layer of shingles. the topmost layer is curling up and appears to be quite the ineffective barrior. Most of the shingles shed are swept into my yard (doesn't bother me). It's like watching Survivor - which shingles will be voted off the roof this week? Perhaps this winter I will get to see the bare wood and the neighbours may experience the great outdoors within.
(I have told them several times over the last few years about the condition of their roof)
