Shingles

My kitchen window is beside my seat at the kitchen/everything table. I look out on my neighbours who are friendly, are quiet and, as childless professionals, are fairly well off. They take twice yearly trips overseas, often have a new toy in the driveway (boat, camper, etc). Their home was professionally painted a couple of years ago, they spend lots of time making their garden beautiful.
But as I look out at their house, the thing that I associate with them the most is that the condition of their roof.
With the last windstorm, I can now see down to the lowest/third layer of shingles. the topmost layer is curling up and appears to be quite the ineffective barrior. Most of the shingles shed are swept into my yard (doesn't bother me). It's like watching Survivor - which shingles will be voted off the roof this week? Perhaps this winter I will get to see the bare wood and the neighbours may experience the great outdoors within.
(I have told them several times over the last few years about the condition of their roof)

its funny (not) that some people can take such good care of their house and yard but forget the roof. Maybe you should invite them over and they could sit at your table and see for themselves.

Can you figure out which room will start leaking first? Pray you're not on night shift when they do decide to redo the roof.

I was working nightshift when my roof was redone. And when they replaced the sewers on my street!

See? This is great. Neighbors behind us had a bale of shingles on their roof for 15 years. We could see it, but they were never at the necessary angle to know it was up there. We called them 'the Clampetts' and it wasn't just because of those shingles. I wonder what they called us.
