This morning I took the dog out to the army rifle range (easily accessible by stepping through a lame barb wire fence). It's big and open so I can see where dog goes. Of course, there were no soldiers there shooting.
Well, this am she disappeared into the bush and I heard her barking. Naturally I assumed that she was harrassing a huge bear. I called and called but she ignored me. I didn't want to go see what was up there in the woods off the rifle range. I had my air horn out with my finger on the trigger and my cell phone out in my other hand with my finger on "9".
Finally, fear gave way to annoyance so that I was able to creep closer and find her digging at some kind of small burrow and yelping with excitement. Stupid dog. That leash went on, she got the scolding of her life, and we marched right away from there. I did give in, once we were a good distance away. There is a path like a hallway, it's so shrubby on each side, and I let her off leash. She didn't move more than 10 feet away from me the rest of the way back to the car. And she kept looking up at me as if to say "I'm sorry, boss, I'm sorry. It won''t happen again. "
I didn't believe a word.
