In 2006, our local school system banned a book for kids aged 5-7 called Vamos a Cuba because it portrayed Cuban school children as happy.

I wonder if Salinger's book is as good as The Catcher in the Wry by Bob Uecker.

Weather alert from the Miami Herald:
As if right on cue, a cold front is moving in as Christmas nears. Thursday night lows in South Florida will drop to the mid- to upper-60s. And then, by Friday night, say “ahh.” Friday night lows are forecast to dip to near 50, according to the National Weather Service in Miami-Dade. The cool will be accompanied by a breeze with gusts as high as 24 mph. Saturday night will remain chilly, in the mid-50s. Temperatures will gradually warm Sunday and Monday, Christmas Eve. The Christmas Day forecast for Tuesday? Mostly sunny, with highs around 80.

"Is the National Rifle Association really so powerful, so in bed with politicians, so feared, that no politician is brave enough to spit in their eye? Does NRA money purchase cowardice?"

Sadly, yes and yes.

Yes, you got the 28% right. Good job! We're going to make a nerd out of you yet.

You used the phrase "mathematical probability"! I'm so proud of you.

Take Five is one of those pieces everyone has heard, but not everyone knows its name or the name of the artist.

I'm curious. Did you find a site with interesting photos that inspired your last few posts. Or did you write the posts first, then search for appropriate photos to accompany them? I'm guessing the former.

A proper bowl of grits would be any bowl I don't have to eat and you know I'm hardly a finicky eater. If this picture was taken near your home it may be believable. There is such a small population that restaurants should double (or triple up) to cover as many bases as possible. I can see it now: Mr. Yang's gourmet fish & chips and deli!

I view psychologists much the same way you view economists. I'm sure at one point in your legal career you ran into a case where one psychologist testified A (e.g. the defendant was competent to stand trial) and opposing counsel produced a psychologist who testified the negation of A.

Some Republicans are finally advocating immigration reform, not because they think it is the right thing to do, but because they realize it will be very hard to ever win a national election again with 75% of the country's fastest growing demographic voting against you.

Are you aware that "hiking the Appalachian Trail" is now a euphemism for having an affair?

That just gives you a reason to go back!

LOL, a corn dog to celebrate the big 7-0. Still a big spender, I see.

If you are tired of the political ads living in the reddest of states, can you imagine how bad it was in a swing state where I live? And, yes, our elections people are idiots.
