You ought to be presenting at that conference, not attending!
Comment on Conferencing - Apr 13, 2013 6:23 PM ()
I had a feeling your conference didn't involve a flight.

You're out of town? That's news right there! I'm guessing it's not too far from home.

I've never understood sushi. It all tastes the same to me....like cold white rice or cold white rice with wasabi.

An engineer, a mathematician, and a lawyer were arguing about the nature of God. The mathematician pointed to the order in the universe and concluded that, certainly, God must be a mathematician. Then engineer noted that God created the world in just six days, “surey a tremendous engineering feat”.

The lawyer claimed that there was no question but that God was a lawyer. “How do you figure?” his opponents replied.

“What did God create the universe from?”

“Why, out of chaos.”

“And who created the chaos?”

As bad as it is here, it is worse overseas. Italy has gotten better. England has gotten better. Madrid has been the worst I have seen but this summer I am going to China, which I expect to be even worse.

Regime change is always a crap shoot. Often what you get is worse than what you had. Batista was a brutal dictator, but Castro has been a thousand times worse. So was the Shah, but I'd rather have him in charge that the Ayatollahs. Yes, Saddam was evil, but an Islamic government could be much worse.

A blog about 1969 without a mention of The Amazing Mets? Blasphemous! It was also my high school's last winning season in football until the current millennium.

I agree with you with regard to cynicism. Experience has shown me it is warranted more often than not.

You think it's just their English? The last couple of weeks I have been tutoring a high school student for the math portion of the SAT. For one problem, she needed to add 15 and 10 and reached for her calculator. I grabbed it out of her hand and said, "If you had 15 cents and someone gave you another 10 cents, how much money would you have?" (Students usually calculate better when money is involved.) She replied that she gets nervous and needs a calculator. She is in 12th grade!

Engineering and accounting? You must have loved math. My reading is exclusively non-fiction. The last fiction book I read was RN: The Memoirs of Richard Nixon.

There are a few countries with no political parties, but they are all small nations. For example, Tuvalu and Nauru. One of the biggest problems with parties is the power of the leadership. If we removed the power of the Speaker and the Senate majority leader to decide which bills come to the floor, more would get done.

My first car was a 1971 Ford Pinto. After buying it, a friend told me Ford stood for Fix Or Repair Daily. It would have been nice if he had told me that BEFORE the purchase.
