Hot Drinks for Cold Weather

Sorry it took so long to get these posted.

Homemade Amaretto
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup dark brown sugar*
3/4 cup very hot water
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 1/2 cups 80-proof vodka
1 tbsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla extract

Combine the hot water with the sugars in a medium glass pitcher or bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add corn syrup and stir well. Add vodka and flavorings and stir. Store in a sealed container. Makes about 3 cups.

*If you don't want to look for dark brown sugar, just add a little molasses to light brown sugar.

Homemade Kahlua
4 cups water
1 1/2 cups instant coffee crystals
4 1/2 cups 100 proof vodka
8 cups sugar
2 vanilla beans
Directions:

Mix water, sugar and coffee crystals. Heat and stir until dissolved. Cool to room temperature. Add vodka. Stir to combine. Pour mixture into 6, 12.5 oz. bottles. Cut each vanilla bean into thirds and drop bean into each bottle. Cap. After 2-3 weeks strain, remove beans and rebottle.

Here's a recipe for Amaretto Coffee Creamer.

Amaretto Coffee Creamer
3/4 cup non-dairy coffee creamer
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup confectioners sugar

Combine all ingredients in a container with a tight fitting lid. Shake well to blend. Store in airtight container and give creamer with the recipe for Amaretto Coffee.
To make Amaretto Coffee: In a mug, combine 2 tablespoons of creamer with 6 ounces of coffee.

This hot buttered rum batter makes an excellent gift but save some for yourself. It's good even without added rum.

Hot Buttered Rum Mix
Makes 3 cups mix.

2 cups (1 1/2 pounds) firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine at room temperature
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 teaspoon each:
vanilla extract
rum extract
brandy extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon grated nutmeg

Combine all ingredients and beat with a mixer until smooth. Keeps 3 months in the refrigerator.

To serve: put 1 teaspoon mix into 6 to 8 ounces of hot apple or orange juice, hot milk, coffee, or hot water with rum.

Hot Buttered Lemonade

Grated peel of 1/2 lemon
1/2 cup lemon juice
3 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
(1/4 cup light rum)
(1 tablespoon butter)

Combine in a saucepan and heat.

Thank you. I had lost those recipes and like both of them. I think we
used grain alcohol...l00 proof but I am going to stick to the Vodka.

I want to try moonshine some time, but have a feeling it's overrated.
