Yesterday our island held its annual Fall Fair (yes I know its still summer) and I decided it was time to get more involved. I volunteered to sell tickets at the entrance and since I got a shift shortly after the Fair opened, I had a busy time collecting the entry fee ($6), handing out the door prize tickets and stamping everyone's hand as they entered. I saw a number of people I knew as they bought their tickets but I didn't have a minute to chat with anyone.
I also decided to submit a couple of items for the Arts and Craft section of the Fair and low and behold after the judging was done, I'd won 1st and 3rd place ribbons. How exciting! Now I have a whole year to plan what I can enter in next year's fair.
Our Fall Fair is a typical small community event. We have animals (including llamas) and the entries cover floral arrangements, jams and preserves, cakes and pies, and some perfect specimens of fruit and vegetables. The second floor of our community hall is filled with fibre arts, painting and photography, wood working and so on. Each community group has a display and of course there is entertainment, food and a beer garden. Everything you need to have a fun-filled day.
