There are many worse human rights abuses in Australia. Michael Kirby is correct, but like us, he and his partner have made provision for each other. And in the case of pensions, it is advantageous not to be a legally recognised partnership. both can receive the single pension which is far more than the married one. The truly disgusting thing is that Aboriginal Australians had half their wages stolen from them right up until the 1970's by the government who said they would 'look after it for them and give them it back with interest when they needed it to buy a house etc. Well, the government is now refusing to return the money. some claimants are owed $200,000... but the government says too bad... it was used by previous governments for other purposes -- like building roads and hospitals for whites... that sort of racist treatment is far worse than gays receive today, but Australians are basically racist and don't care.

What I like is having young men offer to carry the bag of wheat or whatever other heavy thing I've bought to the car, instead of just leaving me to it. It is so easy to compliment them on their strength and see them hoping I'll ask them to do something to show off their youth and health. My partner was called a 'senior gentleman' the other day... left him bewildered. He thought he was still 22. I still get an unpleasant surprise after walking in town, if I see myself in a shop window or the closed circuit TV... surely that old man isn't me? I mutter to myself! what I dislike is my weakened muscles, the occasional aching joint and all the other trying things that happen to every human who gets older than 60. No one told me it was going to be like this. Perhaps a good thing, otherwise youth would be spent in a fever of fear.

Yes, it was almost the last time USA actors acted naturally. Since then they have become progressively more hysterical. turn the sound off when watching USA sit-coms and movies and you discover you are watching slightly crazed men and women who over react both facially and bodily. then watch a European movie and see normal people.

If the kids stay with their indoctrinated parents, they have no hope of ever overcoming the brain washing they've endured. After a period of treatment, if the parents accept that children should be children and deserve love, protection, care and innocence, then their children should be allowed to go back - if they choose.

They are using this in France too, where it is called "Beethoven"... a little more classy than mosquito. Kids hanging around is one thing, but vandalism and shoving elderly people off the footpath, bag snatching, abuse and terrorizing pedestrians is another. Shoot them all I say.

What a pity the thousands of endangered animals that will be extinct in a dozen years aren't as cute as these two. Then there might be more effort put into saving other animals, not just humans and their pets, and the entire ecosystem just might not collapse. But when have humans ever made the right choice? Never yet.

And when you consider that no matter what the public eventually decides after all this hullabaloo, the 200 super delegates can ignore that and vote any way they like? This has as much to do with democracy as a circus has to do with bird watching.

As for the philosophy... seems a bit suspect to me. "turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to wrong-doing." I agree about not speaking evil, but if we don't speak up and condemn evil then we become accomplices. The alleged Japanese notion that evil springs from the loins is interesting... and depressing. I like the simplicity of the wooden ones.
