Pierce County prosecutors filed first-degree murder charges Tuesday against a 19-year-old man linked to a fatal weekend shooting in Spanaway.

Jacob Leon Hadley, 19, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty. Bail was set at $1 million.

Charging documents allege Hadley and a group of friends attended a Saturday party in the 3800 block of 246th Street Court East. Before 2 a.m. Sunday, an argument broke out among Hadley, his friends and others at the party.

Octavier Bushnell, 26, was shot in the shoulder; John P. Stratton, 27, was shot in the back and died. Hadley and some of his friends reportedly piled into an SUV and left. A witness told Pierce County sheriff’s detectives he heard Hadley say, “I shot him, I shot him.”

The same witness said he heard Hadley’s girlfriend, also in the car, ask, “You shot him? You shot him?”

“Yeah,” Hadley reportedly answered.

Witnesses at the party said they saw Hadley wave a gun and hit Bushnell in the head with it before shooting him. Bushnell fled in the ensuing chaos – Stratton was shot moments later, charging papers stated.

The full list of charges against Hadley: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm. His trial date is scheduled for March 30.
My nieces Brother-in law shot in the head. What a senseless death. Him and his Girlfriend were to get married this summer after she was to be done with School. I'm so angry at the Gang members. He had turned around to go back in the house to call for help, and was shot in the back of the head. But they said he didn't suffer though. He was the one that was pulling his family together after his Dad just died. I'm so angry! They need to be stopped.
