Today, after 18 years, I lost one of the best friends I’ve ever had – my cat Singer.
I named her that because my Mother told me as a kid that when cats purred they were singing.
The first time I met this cat, she fit into the palm of my hand and her tiny body just vibrated.
I was puzzled and moved my palm around a little as she nestled into it then I realized that she was purring – singing!
Growing up in the great outdoors, Singer was a great hunter and the biggest thing I ever saw her take down was a small rabbit.
She always brought her trophies home and laid them at the doorway and then would howl to let you know about her accomplishment.
She would disappear into the woods by day but would always come back home around dinner time to eat from her dish and to socialize with the family.
She was always around and there for me through thick and thin.
Singer wasn’t a lap cat and was very particular about who she allowed into her family circle.
My son and daughter were the loves of her life, and there was me – her mother.
She knew just when to approach me and rub against my leg or lie at my feet by the fire.
She also knew when I was busy with “people stuffâ€, in a bad mood or having a bad hair day and would give me a wide berth.
I can’t say enough about how we become attached to our pets.
I just know that I did and there’s a hold in my heart and there’s an odd sense of emptiness about the house today.
Singer will be missed and forever loved.
Thank you my friend for your devoted faithfulness and most of all for your love.
