Shallow Hal?

I have been asked by several folks here on Blogster to post something new. I suppose it is about time, the last article was kind of lame anyway. Well, I have been thinking about this for the last few days. Hmm, what to write? What would interest people...what would interest me? Not much came to mind. I thought of writing about my trip with my daughters last weekend at Legoland in California. Funny, while I was there, I saw many entertaining snippets to write about. I also contemplated writing about my "man waiter" issues. But, the more I thought about the content of both those stories, the more I realized that I was going to get blasted by the Blogster community. Mainly, by the women for being shallow.

Has anyone here seen the movie Shallow Hal? Besides one of my HS friends doing all the special effects for the movie (his daughter also plays the little burn victim girl), I actually feel like the main character played by Jack Black. For those who have not seen the movie, the premise is following the advice of his dying father, Hal dates only women who are physically beautiful. One day, however, he runs into self-help guru Tony Robbins, who hypnotizes him into recognizing only the inner beauty of women. Hal thereafter meets Rosemary, an arguably unattractive woman whom only he can see as a vision of loveliness. Well, I think I need to be hypnotized! I swear that I do not mean to be unkind...I also never really dwelled on the looks of others the entire time I was married, but golly! Now, that I am single and *ahem* older, I have to say that it seems like most woman I see fall into three categories. Notice I said 'most"? If you are yelling at your computer as you read this...this does not apply to you, or anyone you know! :) OK, the three categories are...too young, married, or not my type. There is a fourth...of age, not married, and attractive. But, this seems to be rare these days. Again, if your blood is boiling, please re-read the "does not apply to you" sentence.

The first two are fairly self-explanatory, so I wont go there. The "not my type" comment (besides potentially getting me in trouble) does need a bit of quantifying. I am not talking about hot models or anything...just someone that is attractive, cute, etc. Back to the Legoland story. Besides having a great time with my girls, I thought is was odd that out of the thousands of women I saw at the park that day, maybe a handful of them were attractive to me. Take out the the married and that number goes down. Now, to clarify, I did not spend the whole day with binoculars camped out on a bench checking out the woman. I was there with my girls having a great time. But, I did make a few mental notes while walking around. I have to be honest, I think it may have had something to do with Legoland. Here in Vegas, I see a lot of beautiful women. Unfortunately, 95% of those fall into the too young, or married categories. Where is Tony Robbins when you need him?

Human nature, and survival of the fittest I believe has a role on why this is. It is like the "all babies are cute" thing. Hmm, I was thinking I had a point to make, but now I got nothin! Probably a good thing, as I feel I would get myself into more hot water here. I suppose I could segue into the "man waiter" story...

My "man waiter" issues are now more of a comical inside joke between me an my girls. See, I go out to eat a lot...like, everyday. I just looked at my 2005 dining expenses, it was something like $20,000. Ouch! Anyway, it is kind of a running joke that no matter how many waiters/waitresses there are at a restaurant, I am going to get the guy. My girls are even tuned into it (of course they think it is funny!). From the first question "smoking or non-smoking?" I am screaming in my head "non-dude section!". Nothing against male waiters, but I rarely get out as it is...is it so wrong to want to talk to a woman waitress? Oh well! Maybe it is like after you buy a new car...you then see everyone on the road has that same car. Once I get a girlfriend, I will probably only get female waitresses. Life cracks me up!
